Trail RulesEventsMerchandiseRiding EtiquetteThe way we ride today shapes mountain bike trail access tomorrow. PLEASE do your part to preserve and enhance our sport’s access and image by observing the following rules of the trail, formulated by IMBA and fine tuned by PMBA to make them more relevant to riding in this great city of Philadelphia! 1 Ride On Open Trails Only: Respect trail and road closures (ask if uncertain); avoid trespassing on private land; obtain permits or other authorization as may be required. The way you ride will influence trail management decisions and policies. 2 Leave No Trace: Be sensitive to the dirt beneath you. Recognize different types of soils and trail construction; practice low-impact cycling. Wet and Muddy trails are more vulnerable to damage and use will require more frequent maintenance. When the trail bed is soft, consider other riding options. This also means staying on the existing trails and not widening them or creating new ones. Be sure to pack out at least as much as you pack in. 3 Control Your Bike! Inattention for even a second can cause problems. Get to know your equipment. 4 Always Yield Trail: Let your fellow trail users know you’re coming. A friendly greeting or bell is considerate and works well; don’t startle others. Show your respect when passing by slowing down to a walking pace or even stopping. Use common sense and put yourself in their shoes. Anticipate other trail users around corners or in blind spots. Yielding means slow down, establish communication, be prepared to stop if necessary, and pass safely. 5 Never Scare Animals: All animals are startled by an unannounced approach, sudden movement, or loud noise. This can be dangerous for you, others, and the animals. When passing horses use special care and follow directions from horseback riders (ask if uncertain.) 6 Plan Ahead: Know your equipment, your ability and the area in which you are riding, and prepare accordingly. Be self-sufficient at all times, keep your equipment in good condition, and carry necessary supplies for changes in weather. Always wear a helmet and other appropriate gear. 7 Don't Ride in Large Groups: Groups of 5 or 6 should be the maximum size, especially during peak usage periods. 8 Have fun! Remember why you are out riding and always smile! Weekly Rides  Monday 7:30PM Janette St. 3/15

[PMBA] The Philadelphia Mountain Biking AssociationJanuary 2010 Volunteer Trail WorkWritten by Lou Harris A big "Thank You" and pat on the back to all of the approximately 35 people who came out on a COLD Saturday, Jan 30th to volunteer and help make the Wissahickon Park a better place. We brought a fight to the ocean of invasives plants on the hillside directly below Summit Ave, along the corridor of our proposed new BYPASS trail. Great job everyone. We proved our determination and mettle to the Fairmount Park Commission and Wissahickon Restoration Volunteer representatives who were present. We want to thank those gentlemen, Dave and Steve, for their guidance and assistance with our work. Also, thanks to Luis and Starbucks Coffee for helping keep us energized and warm! Letter from the new PMBA PresidentWritten by Jon Pearce Dear PMBA,On Wednesday September 30th, 2009 the Board of Directors assembled for the monthly BOD meeting. This meeting was particularly interesting as it was also the annual Executive elections. As many of you might have heard, Lou Harris (President), Rob Krotee (Vice President) and Chris Hunter (Vice President) have retired from the executive positions to allow some new blood to steer the ship for a while. Actually, it is speculated they just wanted to ride more, but I digress.... More Articles...Page 1 of 3 «StartPrev123NextEnd» |
