Hi everybody, there is a new group forming over at Belmont Plateau headed by avid bikers, Ed Bush and Mark Elsasser, but they intend to make this a multi-user group similar to FOW. They are having their first public volunteer day this weekend, so let's get over there and make a nice showing and help them out. I know a bunch of PMBA members ride this awesome destination, and now is the time to start giving back, like we do in the Wiss. Here is their announcement.

"This Sunday June 27th Mark Elsasser and I (Ed Bush) are conducting a cleanup day at the Belmont Plateau. Our goal is to bag up as much trash as possible along the athletic fields, access roads, and trails. Your participation would be greatly appreciated. There will be sign up sheets at the event for people interested in being involved in a friends group for Belmont Plateau. The Fairmount Park Commission is allowing us to form a group that may take on some stewardship of the trails there. Removing trash on a large scale this Sunday should help us form our group and lend us some credibility with the FPC and other park users.

The cleanup will officially begin at 11:00 AM and end by 3:00 PM. If you know the park well and feel motivated to lead a group out to specific sections you may show up around 10:00 AM. We will be meeting in the field above the main entrance to the Plateau, if you are coming from 76 or West River Drive you can head up Montgomery Ave and make your first right then stay to the right and go to the end of the road. Look for a large maroon Powerbar easy up tent. Be advised that West River Drive will be closed as well as the Greenland Loop for the Philadelphia Tri.

We suggest you bring work gloves and wear long sleeves. Use every precaution against ticks and poison ivy. Some trash bags will be provided but please bring a few durable bags with you if you can. PMBA has kindly donated some food and refreshments for the day which will be available at the sign up table. We look forward to seeing you there but if you can't make it you may still have a chance this late fall or early winter. Mark and I intend to organize another cleanup then so we can get to the trash currently hidden by plants and tree leaves.

Thanks for reading,

Hope to see you Sunday
