Local Night Ride Crew? Janette Street Access Point?
0 votes

Who's in for a moderately paced ride say typically on Tuesday nights starting around 7.  Ride til 9 ish.  Exact Route TBD.

I am new to the area, but fully knowledgable about the Wiss trail system, live nearby and although it doesn't stop me, I am getting bored with riding alone all the time.

Let me know if anyone is in for tomorrow night.  I can't respond during work, but will check in to see who's down to meet at the Jannette St. access point (basically take Green Lane up the hill in Manayunk and back down - entrance on left at the bend).

Looking to meet some new people who have as rough a work schedule as me and like to night ride.  ;D

Welcome to the forums DirkaDirka!

Ok. We're gonna meet you at Jannette at 7 and do a loop, and then...there is a crew meeting tommorow night @830. May even start a bit late knowing this crew. Meeting spot is Valley green lot. We'll hook up with them and ride some more. Sound good?

Tom, I'm guessing you'll leave from Pavillion around 6:45-ish.  If so, i'll meet you there.

Yea John, hopefully that's how it will be. I should be able to get home and then ride over in time, or I'm gonna be coming in from the other direction. If you don't see me there by 645, head to Jannette and we'll see you there.

Guys,  I am in.  Sounds like some people are meeting at Livezy Pavillion tonight at 6:45?  I too can now only ride at night because i consistently get stuck at work until 6.

Re: Local Night Ride Crew? Janette Street Access Point?

What a night. Let's see:

We started our ride/trail work at around 4 and went until 615 and then wraped up so we could meet you guys. While getting ready Nick accidently locks his keys in the trunk with his light, camelbak, and helmet.

So we jump in my truck and head to my house and get stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident near Walnut which causes us to miss John for the 645 meeting time.

On the way to my house Nick decided he's gonna smash his window to get the car open. Crazy yes.

So we grab a hatched and a helmet for Nick and try to catch you guys, but on the way to Jannette, Nick breaks his chain, so when we get there you guys are gone. Sorry. At this point Nick has no light and is riding the trails at a damn impressive pace...in the dark...with no light. Skillz. Jamie and I follow behind him to help him see.

Get back to Daisy where his car is...Smash!!!...Light. check. camelbak. check. Keys. Double check.

Ride continues and we're hammering, we finally catch up with you guys and the rest of the 830 group and end up with a group of at least 15 riders! Maybe more but I did not get a head count. 5 minutes into this part of the ride, I fall off a log ride and go OTB. Have not done that in a while. I Straighten my bars, thankfully I did not break my lights.

Some of these guys on the 29ers where real fast on climbs, so Jamie and I drop the hammer on a down to try and stay out of traffic and we lose half the group when they miss a turn. Sheesh. What a night. Ride continues and Nick who is having a stream of bad luck gets a flat. One thing after another.

Crazy night, not to mention a late night. My legs were sore when I woke up today. Dirk, Kevin, real good to meet you guys. Hopefully we'll ride again soon, without all the drama.

Damn, sounds like a good ride. And I thought I had issues trying to mount new tires onto my road bike  ::) Maybe it was good I wasn't able to join since it sounded like a hammerfest..........

kinda cool seeing that many lights on the trail.  a little hectic though.  Jamie?  (sorry bad with names) going over his handlebars at VGI was priceless.

Yea Jamie went OTB in the parking lot right in front of Valley Green. Thanks Kev, I forgot all about that. What a first impression. Classic!

Great ride Tuesday...Kevin & Dirka, nice to meet you guys and I'd be down for riding Tues at 7 or whatever time each week.

Another interesting note - the 3 of us were finishing up a loop before meeting the bigger crowd.  So we're coming back to VGI from Lincoln on the Chestnut Hill side and doing the last big climb just after the small creek crossing.  Some dude in white tee shirt carry what looked to me like a white sheet rolled up in a ball is walking down the trail towards the creek.  We all blind him a bit with our headlamps and he gives us all a Hawaiian greeting of "Hello-Ha".

Yeah man!  Tuesday was good.  Should be out tonight rockin the long sleeves.  Fall riding is the best.

It was cool to ride with such a large group even though we got split up faster than Jamie went OTB!

Hoping there is interest again for next week same time and place?

As I mentioned to the folks at the ride, I am close to the park and will pretty much go at the drop of a hat... just let me know.

Well, I didn't originally plan on going out for a ride tonight, but saw you planning and thought why not?  Then saw Kevin's response so I figure you weren't there at 7...

Hope you had a good ride.  It was cold. :o

Yeah, we left earlier to meet up w/crew from last week...sorry dude I wasn't sure who was interesed so put something up on the chat log and we made plans to meet at 6:00.  Yup, fun ride and I agree it's starting to get cold.  For next week, we'll have to coordinate earlier and start around 7:00 again.

Hey what's the ride level for these  wed night rides?  I don't want to slow anyone up.  I also have to get some lights soon, any suggestions?

Ben, Tom has a ride leaving the Livezy Pavilion at 5:30. If you come tonight and you're slower than his crew I'll stick with you.

Dustin's group normally goes at 6:30 though I think there may be some changes with the change in season.

Most of the rides are weekly but always contact the ride leader first. Sunday's ride will be occasional at best.

Thursday beginners are welcome, but I'm out all the time so if you want a 'starter' ride we can make that happen normally Mon-Thursday...

My Wed 530 ride is not very fast. It's not like a training ride by any means and we just go the pace of the group and nobody gets left behind. Most regulars are slow to climb and very fast on the downs.

For lights: Get the best you can afford. As long as they get you out there, that's what matters most. Def get Lithion Ion batteries what ever you choose and try to get at least a 2 hour burn time so you don't get caught in the dark. One on the head and one on the bar is the best setup. There are some light discusions on the forum somewhere....

Good ride last night Jess!
