Monday 7:30p rides
0 votes

Hey all:

I was reminded by my wife last night that I have a prior commitment this coming Monday so I won't be able to start the group ride this week, but will start the following week instead. The weather and/or trail conditions for this Monday are not looking good anyway, but if it turns out nice the rest of you could still go for it. See you the following Monday!

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

So, in light of the crappy weather tomorrow and, from what people were saying, muddy trails, is anyone still in for the as-yet-to-occur 7:30 official Monday night ride?

Bummed I missed TM, was visiting family in the Catskills--all snow up there.  So when  is the next meeting anyway?

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

If it doesn't rain at all today I think it should be ok. I hate having to make last-minute decisions but I think we should play it by ear based on the weather and make the call by 4:30p. Regardless we'll avoid the more frequently saturated trails.

If it doesn't rain who else is in?

Alright then, unless there is a saturating amount of rain (light sprinkles don't count) I'll be in the Lincoln Drive lot before 7:30p for anyone who wants to get a ride in. My mobile is 215.901.3166.

PS - I'll be riding the trails down to the lot, no car with me.

I'm in.  I'll see you there.  And where is the Lincoln Drive lot anyway?  I probably should have asked this earlier....

*** CANCELLED ***

Defintely too wet out there! It looked like it wasn't raining all day from my office window, but walking out to the car when I left work  proved otherwise. The entire drive home was consistent rain, and I just checked the trailhead near my house, it's too wet.

Max and I are starting from VG at 5:30
We can try to figure out a way to not be at Lincoln end before 7:30

Don't think I'll be able to make tonight - it's a crazy time of year. However, a Christmas Eve ride might be in order :)

As much as it pains me, I am going to be stuck at work, and it sucks balls.  So, I will miss the ride.

Pete, can you get to the trail head before 7:30?

Like I said, Max and I will be heading out from VG at 5:30. We can try to coordinate the time with you, as long as it's a little earlier than 7:30

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

I will be at the Lincoln Drive lot at 7:30, which is about half way through my ride, since I enter at GOrgas Lane in ROx. So hopefully I will meet up with some riders and head towards Valley Green on the East side of park. But I will be bailing out at Gorgas Lane to head home. Bundle up it is COLD out!

It's on! Some riders are meeting at my place at 630 and we're gonna plan to be at Lincoln at 730 to pick up rest of group...if there is a group?

I will be trying to make these as well, as soon as I get my light situation worked out.  Shouldn't be too long.

My schedule tends to be random, but I will try to make the ones I can....

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

I hope you, guys, had a good ride. We had a really good one!

New trail at Gorgas was pretty beat up. But the one at Livezey was immaculate!!! That trail looked like there was no snow, no rain, nothing!

At times I thought we were in Belmont, not Wissa, there were so many down trees. We cleared one from Livezey trail, and one closer to the creek crossing on the other side of Livezey Lane road.

That trail seems to hold up awesome, as does the new indian trail.  Hopefully the top part of Gorgas will pack down nicely, I was in there late on Saturday and it was sticky when pretty much everything else was fine.  That one part of the downhill right after the switchback/drop is soft and sticky, but I think you pretty much predicted that it would need additional work there.  Lower down the rock armoring was showing but it seemed really solid.

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

New trails are always soft at first. Livezey and Indian benefited from the type of soil that could be packed down hard. Gorgas has rather soft soil and we didn't have time to really pack it down. We will have to tune it up when the weather improves.
The rock armoring is suppoed to show. It's good texturing (tm)  :D

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

Yeah, it reminds me of some of the new trails they built at Middle Run.  Super slow and soft at first.  They had a mini powered roller to pack them down even.

Cheaters.  ;D

Did anyone make it up Gorgas tonight?  I tried a few times but kept getting stalled in the soft spot right before the top.  :-\

EDIT:  Yeah that's what I meant to say....the spot right before the sharp turn.  Got my front wheel on top but that's about it.  Loose a bunch of speed in that little soft spot right as you turn to go up the step.

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

I keep getting stalled at the step at the sharp turn in the middle. Three attempts so far, no dice for me. Lou? Tom? Anyone else? Who made it?

Re: Monday 7:30p rides

Ok well good to hear there's still interest for Mondays, I agree around the holidays are bad (and with xmas eve and New Years eve falling on Mondays as well), plus the weather has been flakey lately.

I didn't see the "other ride" responses to this thread (Tom/Lou/D/et al) after the 7:30p was cancelled until just now, otherwise I woulda tried to meet-up with the rest of you guys. Next time!
