October 2010 TMD at Nockamixon

Let's not forget PMBA will be doing trail work this weekend. We are going to be building new trails at Nockamixon this Sunday. Last time out there our friends from VMB were very greatful at the speed we were able to help cut the new trail corridor. Now we are going to do some focus on bench cutting the new trails. Very fun stuff and the trail crew at VMB are a cool group of guys. There is lots of potential for trails in this park, and we are glad to be able to help out.

Here are more details from the event link:

We will focus our efforts on bench cutting and rock armorning a new section of trail at Nockamixon State Park. Our friends up north, Valley Mountain Bikers, are spearheading a project to build new trails which are permitted to mountain bikers and we have been working with them and need to get members up there to help them do the actual building! PA DCNR has APPROVED these trails and we have the green light, which is HUGE for mountain bikers in Eastern Pennsylvania. To corridor was cleared at our last TMD day and now we are ready to cut some trail!   Those of us heading up are going to bring our bikes and ride after the trail work. Gonna make this road trip even more worth while so don't forget your bike.

Very nice turn out today.  21 trail hungry builders showed up to bench cut some sweet trail in at Nockamixon.  Once again my planned accomplishments for the day were exceeded, thanks to all the guys, gals and kids that helped out today.   Big thanks to PMBA for providing a well deserved lunch for the crew.

Sunday's Turnout

21 volunteers continued work on these trails Sunday, led by Valley Mountain Bikers, and a small PMBA contingent.  Mostly these were local riders, who are excited to have some legal biking close to home.  From discussion with Kenny, in this 4th week of trail work, already a regular crew has formed, of about 7 to 8 core volunteers.  These trails are off to a good start, with several miles cleared already, and several hundred feet of bench cut in some of the steeper portions, completed on Sunday.   PMBA provided lunch for some hungry volunteers, and all were very appreciative.

One crew of 3 to 4 volunteers was from the Horsham area.  These volunteers are currently working with Horsham Township, to get trails approved in a township park in their back yard.   See www.thecrankcrew.org, if you would be interested in these trails.  We will keep an eye on them, and if they get the trails approved, they can expect some support from PMBA!!!
