Forbidden Drive Temporarily Closed

See below for a note from Chris Palmer of the FPC/DPR.

Forbidden Drive Trail will be temporarily closed starting immediately! 

As a result of crumbling concrete falling from the Walnut Lane Bridge as it crosses the Wissahickon Valley, Forbidden Drive has been closed at the urging of the Streets Department. Detour signs will be installed at 10 box, Kitchens Lane and also at Jeanette/Monastery Sts. 
A media advisory is being prepared by Steve Buckley and will be distributed this afternoon. 

Bridge inspection is being scheduled as is a the installation of a structure on Forbidden Drive that will allow pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian access. 

As this area is very popular to park users and cyclist commuters, we urge all to follow this closure which will be an  inconvenience, but people's safety is most important.

I assume this means it's closed just where the Walnut Lane Bridge crosses over it, is that correct?

Has anyone been out on the trails since this happened? Wondering if they are blocked also.

Upper trails may be closed

The Bike Coalition has a post on their blog stating that says the adjacent natural surface trails are closed. I assume these are the two upper trails.

What I saw

I saw a bunch of St Dept trucks down there on Wednesday PM, and at that time the upper trails were still open.  Probably closed off now, but haven't made it out to check

Everybody Bikes, but not everybody Mountain Bikes!

Someone from the Trailspinners rode the upper trails today and he said the upper trails are open.

Trail closed?!?!? Come on people. How does anyone close a trail? Use your damn common sense and stop and look up before you ride under the bridge. If you see a falling piece of concrete, wait until it hits the ground and then proceed as long as another piece is not falling. If you somehow get hit by said falling concrete, Darwin chalks up another win... Sheesh...

Is it really closed?

Rode the trails today, signs have been moved aside from Forbidden Drive and anyone can go through, horses joggers hikers and bikers, just look up and pray before you pass!
