Event Details:
- This is a FREE event staffed by all volunteers.
- Please try to arrive between 9AM and 11AM as most group kid rides will be departing during this time window.
- We plan to have the following rides setup to accommodate all levels of kids and riding abilities (see below)
- Parents bring your bikes too so you can ride with your kids!
Beginner / Toddlers: We will have a short loop around the picnic pavilion area or nearby field where the little ones can ride while you keep an eye on them and they can feel like part of the action.
Intermediate Kids: We will setup a "Practice Loop" about 1/2 mile long that starts near the Pavillion. It will be all singletrack and mostly flat with some fun trail features such as berms (bank turns) and small bumps, etc. This will be great for kids (and parents) to practice their skills on without going far from the main gathering area.
Intermediate/Older Kids: We have identified a nice 3.5 mile singletrack ride that gives a nice sampling of what mountain biking is all about in the beautiful Wissahickon park. It will be a nice rolling trail with ups and downs but mostly downhill. It does have a few rocky sections that kids can walk or ride depending on their ability (and we will be there to coach them on proper technique). This ride will start on the trail off of the Wise Mills Rd. entrance to the park and we will be shuttling rider groups there in small groups with ride leaders to show them the way. Again, the object is to have FUN and get kids excited about biking in the woods so we will be taking it easy and having a good time.
Skills Clinic at 11AM for all Ages: Don’t forget to stick around for the Skills Clinic which starts at 11AM at the Pavillion. We will be teaching technique for things such as: Riding over Logs, Small Jumps, and much more. Stick around and sharpen your skills and have a great time on the trails!
