Statement on Re-Opening Closed Trails

In recent weeks, fallen trees have been chainsawed on the closed Coil/Recoil trail at Wissahickon Valley Park near Pachella Field. In addition, the entrance to the closed Knob/Gorgas trail has repeatedly been cleared, including cutting down live trees. Rogue trail work in the Wissahickon is illegal, destructive, irresponsible, and selfish. PMBA condemns such behavior.

The vast majority of mountain bikers in the Wissahickon ride open trails and leave no trace. Illegal trail work is endangering future riding in the Wissahickon and damaging mountain bike advocacy in the region.

If you are doing rogue trail work in the Wiss, including removing sticks/debris blocking a closed trail, or riding closed trails, Stop Now. If you know who is opening these trails, tell them you won't stand by while they damage mountain biking's future, and report their actions to the park authorities.
