demotrail20066_000.jpgWith the IMBA crew fully entrenched at the Wissahickon, and with major machine construction well underway, it's time for volunteers to step up and join in the big push. Starting 5pm tonight, (Wed, Aug 23) at Bells Mill, and almost daily over the coming weeks, there are plenty of chances to get involved. This is your opportunity work side by side with some of the most experienced trail builders on the planet. These folks have come from all over the country especially for this assignment; helping out will be both a learning experience and a chance for you to shape the trails hands-on. This exciting project includes 600ft of fresh soon-to-be-cut singletrack!

Two firm days are tonight, (Wed) at 5pm, and 9am Sunday. But you can come almost any time. Please read on after the jump for all the details from Kevin Groves, volunteer coordinator for the FOW.

The following is from Kevin Groves:

The trail project is moving along and we have come to a point where the help of volunteers would be much appreciated throughout the week to help out with hand work.  Particularly, if you have time during the weekdays please feel free to come by.  If possible, try to let me know beforehand.  But if you can’t please come anyway!  In addition to the week day work, we still have a scheduled volunteer evening every Wednesday in August starting at 5 pm, as well as volunteer days on Sunday 8/17, and Saturday 8/23.  Thanks to all who have been helping out!

Here’s some more info and directions to the site for anyone who may need it:

Sustainable Trail Project Days

Join us on the Orange Trail below Bell's Mill Road to help out with our sustainable trail restoration project.  From Bell's Mill Road to the Red Covered Bridge, we will take measures to improve water runoff management, restore trails, and improve the trail to enhance user experience and safety.   This is part of our Sustainable Trails Initiative.

Directions:

Meet across from the parking lot along W Bell's Mill Road (P-5 on the FOW Map).   This is the parking lot directly next to the Wissahickon Creek.   If you don’t see anyone at the trail head, please continue along the trail until you do!  Make sure to pick up work gloves, safety glasses, and hard hat (when needed), which are all available at the work site.
